leaving home to fight a war.

집을 떠나 전장에 나가기엔

너무 어린 소년이지요 

 

 I'll never forget that night
My baby left on a midnight flight

그가 비행기를 타고 간 그날밤을

난 잊을 수 없어요

.

No longer just teenage guy.
Which soldier telling sweetheart, "Goodbye"

그는 소년이 아니라 애인과 작별인사하는

병사로 바뀌었어요

 
He said,"Don't cry, for I come back .

We'll have time to do what we want to do.

"내가 돌아오면 우리가 하고픈 일을 할 수 있으니

울지마라"고 그는 말 했었지

 
Oh my ,if I only knew then that our days were so few

우리가 같이 지내던 날이 얼마되지 않는다던

소년병은 주근깨 투성이.

Today his first letter from Vietnam came.
It looked like a teardrop hes photo beside my name

오늘 베트남에서 처음편지가 왔는데

내 이름옆에 눈물방울이 떨어져 있는걸로 보였어요

 

He said "Honey, I am proud of wearing this army coat
even if I am not quit old enough to vote.

"내사랑 난 아직 투표할 나이는 아니지만

군복입은 내 모습 대단하다"고 그는 말했지요

 

Stay home mama where she still awaits
Tell, "I can almost smell the bread cheese to bake"

집에 계신 어머님은 여전히 기다리면서

"난 최고로 냄새좋은 빵을 만들 수 있다"고 말하지 

 
What soldier said "all right tomorrow too .
And till then I love you..."

"내일도 또한 잘 지내

그리고 사랑해"라고 병사는 말 했지

이제 18살의

병사는 주근깨 투성이.

집을 떠나 전장에 나가기엔

너무 어린 소년이지

 

Well, tomorrow past to days
and days into weeks on end.

그런데 날짜가 지나 

몇주 끝나서

And you know that boy...
Well he never wrote again..

그소년은

다시는 편지 쓸 수 없게 되었지

.

They sent a medal of honor to his mam,
For all his bravery

그네들은 그의 어머니께 그가 용감했다고

훈장을 보내주었지

 

I know she wanted to keep it.
But you know, she gave that medal to me

그의 어머니는 훈장을 지니고 싶어하면서도

훈장을 내게 주었지

 

I wear it on my heart now
cause it is the closest place to heaven

난 그걸 내 가슴에 묻고 있지

바로 천국과  가까운 곳이기에..

and that's where he lives now.

Yes they called him a man,a very brave man.

그리고 그가 지금 살고 있는곳이고

그네들이 그를 매우 용감한 사람이라고 불러주니까..

.
